Who Is Jesus, Really?
A guessing game with the best answer in the whole world
Let's imagine a make-believe story. Jaden is six. His big sister Lovely is nine. It is a rainy Sabbath afternoon at Grann's house. "Let's play a guessing game!" says Grann. "I am thinking of Someone very special. Listen to my clues." Jaden and Lovely sit up tall. "Clue one: He made the stars. Clue two: He was once a tiny baby. Clue three: He loves kids — a lot!" Jaden jumps off the sofa. "JESUS!" Grann laughs and claps. "Yes! But here is a bigger question. Who is Jesus, really?" Jaden, Lovely and Grann are not real people. They are a picture of many families. But every clue Grann gives about Jesus comes from the Bible!
Long ago, Jesus asked His friends a big question. People were saying lots of different things about Him. So Jesus asked His friends who THEY said He was. His friend Peter answered right away:
"The Christ" means the special One God promised to send. Peter got it right! Jesus is not just a nice man or a good teacher. He is the Son of God. Let's look at the clues, one by one.
Clue 1: Jesus made everything. Before there were any people, any animals, or even any stars, Jesus was already there with God the Father. The Bible calls Him "the Word."
"All things" means everything — the sun, the moon, the fish, the butterflies… and you! The Bible says, "all things were created by him, and for him" (Colossians 1:16). Jesus even said, "Before Abraham was, I am" (John 8:58). Abraham lived a long, long time before Jesus was born. So Jesus did not begin in Bethlehem. He has always been!
Clue 2: Jesus became a baby. God's Son did something amazing. He came down to earth and was born as a tiny baby. Hundreds of years before, God had promised:
The Bible says, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (John 1:14). That means Jesus got a real body, just like yours. He grew up. He got hungry and tired, just like you. The Bible says Jesus understands how we feel, because He faced hard things too — but He never did anything wrong (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus is God and human at the same time. Wow!
Clue 3: Jesus came to save us. Before Jesus was born, an angel told Joseph what name to give the baby:
Sins are the wrong things we do — like lying, or being mean. Sin hurts us, it hurts other people, and it makes God sad. Jesus came to bring us back to God. He said:
A good shepherd takes care of his sheep, even when it is dangerous. Jesus loved us so much that He died on the cross for us. But that is not the end of the story! On the third day, His friends went to His tomb, and they heard, "He is not here, but is risen" (Luke 24:6). Jesus is alive!
Clue 4: Jesus loves kids. One day, some parents brought their children to Jesus. His helpers tried to send them away. Jesus did not like that one bit! He said:
"Suffer" is an old word that means "let." Jesus was saying, "Let the little children come to Me!" Jesus is never too busy for you.
Clue 5: Jesus is the way to God. Jesus told His friends:
Jesus is like the path that takes us home to God the Father. After Jesus rose, His friend Thomas saw Him alive. Thomas was so amazed that he said, "My Lord and my God" (John 20:28).
Clue 6: Jesus is still the same. Jesus has not changed one bit.
The Jesus who welcomed kids long ago welcomes you today. And He is knocking on the door of your heart: "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock" (Revelation 3:20). He does not push the door open. He waits for you to say, "Come in, Jesus!"
Back at Grann's house, Lovely counts on her fingers. "So Jesus is God's Son. He made everything. He became a baby. He died for us and came back to life. He loves kids. And He is still the same!" Jaden looks up. "Grann, can I be Jesus' friend?" Grann gives him a big hug. "Yes, you can! Knowing Jesus is the best thing in the whole world." The Bible even says that knowing God and Jesus is life forever (John 17:3). So the three of them hold hands, and they pray.
Jesus is God's Son, my Maker, my Savior and my Friend — and He loves me!

Take-home sheet
- Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16).
- Jesus made everything — the stars, the animals and me (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16).
- Jesus did not begin in Bethlehem. He has always been (John 8:58).
- Jesus became a real baby and grew up, so He knows how I feel (John 1:14; Hebrews 4:15).
- Jesus came to save me. He died for me, and He rose again (Matthew 1:21; Luke 24:6).
- Jesus loves kids and is never too busy for me (Mark 10:14).
- Jesus is the way to God, and He is still the same today (John 14:6; Hebrews 13:8).
Fun activity: With a grown-up, draw a big door on a piece of paper. Draw Jesus standing outside, knocking. Write on it: "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock" (Revelation 3:20). Then cut the door so it can open, and draw yourself inside, saying "Come in, Jesus!" You can also play Grann's guessing game with your family — give clues about Jesus and let everyone guess!
Think about it: Which clue about Jesus surprised you the most? If a friend asked you, "Who is Jesus?", what would you say? What would you like to tell Jesus today?
For parents & teachers
- Make clear that Jaden, Lovely and Grann are make-believe, but every clue about Jesus is true — open the Bible and read Matthew 16:13-17 and Mark 10:13-16 together.
- Play the guessing game: give one clue at a time (Creator, baby, Shepherd, risen, friend of children) and read the matching verse after each answer.
- Keep the big truth simple: Jesus is fully God and fully human — the eternal Son, one with the Father and the Holy Spirit, who became a baby without ceasing to be God (John 1:1, 14; Philippians 2:5-8; Seventh-day Adventist Fundamental Belief "The Son").
- Speak of the cross gently and in an age-appropriate way, without graphic details, and always pair it with the joy of the empty tomb (Luke 24:6).
- Never pressure a child to "decide." Jesus knocks and waits (Revelation 3:20). Invite the child to pray in their own words — or simply to listen.
- Welcome every question. Jesus Himself asked a question (Matthew 16:15). If you don't know an answer, say, "Let's find out together."
- When children ask about friends who believe differently, teach them to share what the Bible says with kindness, never by making fun of anyone.
- End with a short prayer: "Jesus, thank You for being God's Son and my Friend. Help me know You more."
