Can We Really Trust the Bible?

Yes! And here is the happy reason why.

Imagine someone hands you an old wooden box. Inside there is a folded letter, soft at the corners, written just for you by someone who loves you very much. You open it. Every word is true. Every word says: I know you, and I love you. Guess what? The Bible is a letter like that — only it comes from God Himself!

So where did the Bible come from? It did not fall out of the sky one day, all finished and shiny. God gave the words. That is why the Bible calls itself God-breathed — like when you breathe on a cold window and your warm breath makes a little cloud. God put His own breath, His own thoughts, into these words so they could teach us and help us grow good and strong.

But who held the pen? God asked friends to help. Shepherds who smelled like sheep. Fishermen with rough hands. A king who wrote songs. A doctor. A young man in prison. They lived in different places, and many of them never met each other. Yet all their pieces fit together like one big puzzle, because the Holy Spirit was guiding them — a little like a papa gently holding a small hand that is learning to write.

The Bible is not people's guesses about God. It is God's own message to you!

Now think about a dark hallway at night. You cannot see the toy on the floor or where the corner is. Then somebody gives you a flashlight. Click! Suddenly you can see the very next step. The Bible does that. It does not show you everything all at once, but it always shows you enough light for the next step.

Have you ever picked a flower and put it in a cup of water? It is so pretty. But in a few days the petals turn brown and fall. Almost everything gets old like that. Shoes get too small. Toys break. Even mountains slowly wear down. But God's words do not get old, and they never wear out.

Maybe you have seen a very old photo album at your grandma's house. The pages are yellow and the corners are bent, but the faces inside are still the real faces of your family. Being old does not make something untrue! God kept His words safe, and He kept them true, all the way down to you.

Jesus said something amazing about that. He said the whole sky and the whole earth can go away, but His words will still be standing. Isn't that wonderful? You can lean your whole heart on them, like leaning on a strong wall that will never fall over.

And is it true? Really, really true? On the very last night before He died for us, Jesus prayed to His Father about His friends — and about you too. And in that prayer He said the simplest, strongest thing about the Bible that anyone has ever said.

Here is the best part of all. Remember the treasure map? Every treasure map has an X, and the whole Bible has one too. The X is Jesus. After Jesus rose from the grave, He walked down a dusty road with two sad friends and opened the Scriptures for them, showing them page after page that pointed to Him all along. Their hearts felt warm and happy again.

So it is perfectly okay to ask questions about the Bible. God is never upset by an honest question from His child. Open it, look inside, taste it like a good breakfast — and see for yourself. You can start with just a few verses today on our daily verse page.

In her book Steps to Christ, Ellen G. White reminds us that the Bible is God speaking to us as a friend, showing us His heart. What a happy thing! Your Father in heaven wrote you a letter, and you can trust every single word.

Along the path, draw five little pictures of Bible stories you love. Then take a flashlight, turn off the lights, and read Psalm 119:105 out loud by flashlight. Ask a grown-up to help!

For parents & teachers

• Read the story aloud with warmth and let the child hold a real Bible while you read.
• Pause at each picture — the letter, the flashlight, the fading flower — and ask what the child sees.
• Look up one verse together in the Bible itself, so the child sees it is truly there.
• Welcome every question calmly; never let a child feel that asking is naughty.
• Point each Bible story back to Jesus, the treasure at the center of the whole book.
• Keep daily reading short and joyful — a few verses is plenty for a young child.
• Let the child hear you say that you trust God's word, and why.
• Close with a short prayer thanking God for giving us His letter.
