Is Jesus Really Coming Back?

Scary videos say panic. Your friends say it's a joke. Here's what Jesus actually promised.

Imagine a guy we'll call Marcus (he's not a real person, but a portrait of a lot of teens). It's 1 a.m. and he can't stop scrolling. One video has a countdown clock. Another says, in big red letters, that a "secret" end is coming and only a few will know. Dark music, fast cuts, a voice that sounds sure of everything. Marcus puts his phone down, but his heart is still racing. The next day at lunch, he brings it up, and his friend Dee just laughs: "Bro, people have been saying that for two thousand years. He's never coming." Now Marcus feels two things at once: scared it's true, and scared it's not. Maybe you know that feeling. So let's skip the loud voices and ask the only voice that really knows: what did Jesus Himself say?

The night before the cross, Jesus' friends were scared too. Here's the first thing He told them:

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."John 14:1-3 (KJV)

Notice how it starts: let not your heart be troubled. Jesus' return was never meant to keep you up at night. It's a promise from a Friend: "I will come again." And He meant it literally. Forty days after He rose, His friends watched Him go up until a cloud hid Him (Acts 1:9). Then two angels said:

"Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."Acts 1:11 (KJV)

This same Jesus. Not a symbol, not a vibe. The real Jesus, coming back for real.

Now about those "secret" videos. The Bible says His coming will be the least secret event in history:

"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen."Revelation 1:7 (KJV)

Every eye. Jesus said the whole earth "shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30). It won't be quiet, either:

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (KJV)

A shout, a trumpet, and people who loved Jesus and died rising first. Jesus even warned us ahead of time: if someone says He's hidden somewhere, "believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:26-27). You don't need a video to tell you when lightning flashes across the whole sky.

And the countdown clocks? Jesus already answered them: "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only" (Matthew 24:36). Anyone who gives you a date is guessing. You can scroll past.

What about Dee's "He's never coming"? Peter actually predicted that exact line: scoffers would ask, "Where is the promise of his coming?" (2 Peter 3:3-4). Then he explains the wait: "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise... but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish" (2 Peter 3:9). The delay isn't God forgetting. It's God being patient, so more people, maybe even Dee, can come home.

So how should you feel about all this? Paul calls it a hope, not a horror:

"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;"Titus 2:13 (KJV)

That's the day God "shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death" (Revelation 21:4). You don't get ready by being perfect. Jesus already carried our sins, and He will "appear the second time... unto salvation" for those who look for Him (Hebrews 9:28). Being ready means trusting Him today.

Jesus' return isn't a countdown to fear. It's a Friend keeping His promise.

Ellen G. White, in The Great Controversy (chapter 40, p. 640), describes that moment. She writes that a small dark cloud appears in the east, about half the size of a man's hand. "It is the cloud which surrounds the Saviour and which seems in the distance to be shrouded in darkness." Then: "In solemn silence they gaze upon it as it draws nearer the earth, becoming lighter and more glorious, until it is a great white cloud, its base a glory like consuming fire, and above it the rainbow of the covenant." What looks dark from far away is full of light up close. That's how the Second Coming looks to someone who knows Jesus.

For Marcus, the fear didn't vanish in one night. But he muted the countdown channels, read John 14 before bed, and the next day told Dee, "I'm not scared anymore. I'm waiting for Someone." Dee didn't laugh that time.

10 Myths vs Facts

MythFact (with Bible)
Jesus' return is just a symbol, not a real event."This same Jesus... shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven" (Acts 1:11).
It will happen in secret, and only a few people will notice."Every eye shall see him" (Revelation 1:7).
Someone online has figured out the date."Of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only" (Matthew 24:36).
Jesus might show up quietly in some hidden place first."Behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:26-27).
It's been so long, He's never coming."The Lord is not slack concerning his promise... not willing that any should perish" (2 Peter 3:9).
The Second Coming is supposed to terrify me.It is "that blessed hope" (Titus 2:13). "Let not your heart be troubled" (John 14:1).
Believers who died are lost and will miss it."The dead in Christ shall rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
It will be silent and nobody will hear anything."The trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible" (1 Corinthians 15:52).
Jesus is coming for "the world," not for me personally."I will come again, and receive you unto myself" (John 14:3).
I have to be perfect before I can be ready."Unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation" (Hebrews 9:28).
