Who Is Jesus, Really?

The most important question you will ever answer

Everyone has an opinion about Jesus. A good teacher. A prophet. A nice idea. But Jesus once turned to His closest friends and asked the question that every person must eventually face: "But whom say ye that I am?" (Matthew 16:15). How you answer that one question changes everything — your life now, and your forever.

So let's not settle for opinions. Let's see who the Bible says He is.

He was there before the beginning

Most people think Jesus' story starts in Bethlehem. The Bible says it starts before the world existed:

"In the beginning was the Word... and the Word was God... All things were made by him."John 1:1-3 (KJV)

The "Word" is Jesus (John 1:14). He didn't begin in a manger — He is the Creator. Every star, every ocean, every breath you take was made through Him (Colossians 1:16). The hands that would one day be nailed to a cross are the same hands that flung the galaxies into space.

And yet — He became one of us

Here is the wonder of all wonders. The God who made everything stepped into His own creation:

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us... full of grace and truth."John 1:14 (KJV)

He got hungry. He got tired. He cried real tears. He felt everything you feel. The Bible says He "made himself of no reputation" and took "the form of a servant" (Philippians 2:7). The King of the universe was born in a barn — so that He could reach you wherever you are.

Jesus is fully God and fully human. That's why He understands you completely — and why He alone can save you.

Why He came

He didn't come just to teach. He came to rescue. Hundreds of years before His birth, the prophet Isaiah described it:

"He was wounded for our transgressions... and with his stripes we are healed."Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)

On the cross, Jesus took the punishment we deserved. Three days later, He walked out of the grave alive — proving He has power over sin and death itself. No other teacher, prophet, or leader ever did that. He didn't just point to the way. He said:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."John 14:6 (KJV)

What this means for you

If Jesus is just a good teacher, you can admire Him and move on. But if He is who He says — God, Creator, Savior, risen Lord — then He is not someone to merely respect. He is Someone to follow with your whole heart. And the best news? This mighty God knows your name, sees your struggles, and loves you personally. To know Him is to find life itself:

"This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ."John 17:3 (KJV)

1. Jesus was only a good human teacher.He is God: "the Word was God... was made flesh" (John 1:1, 14).
